Often times, when trying to describe Minecraft to someone who has never played it before, I would say “Minecraft is like playing with legos in a first-person perspective, or even SimCity, but from the view of someone playing Halo.” The great thing about legos is that they are something everyone can relate to, a lot of people have played with legos growing up, they promote creativity and the imagination, much like Minecraft.
Well, some people on Lego’s community site CUUSOO thought it was a good idea to merge the two concepts together. CUUSOO let’s community members suggest ideas and concepts and if they get enough votes from the community, they can be considered for actual creation into real Lego sets. While many people made suggestions for the Minecraft lego sets, Mojang themselves joined in and made their own concept on the site and provided the winning submission. The Minecraft concepts were well fleshed out and garnered over 10,000 votes in 48 hours, breaking CUUSOO records.
Lego announced their excitement about the Minecraft sets:
“We’re happy to announce that the Minecraft project on LEGO CUUSOO has passed the LEGO review and we are now developing a concept that celebrates the best aspects of building with the LEGO system and in Minecraft and we can’t wait to show it to you — but we aren’t ready just yet.”
Hopefully we’ll soon see the Minecraft sets in their real form. Personally, the item that comes out of this that I’m most excited about is a Lego version of the crepper that can blow up all my other lego sets. “That’sssss a nice pirate sssssssssship you have there…”
